Students’ Support Service

GRANTS

Students undertaking any full time Further Education course may apply for a means tested maintenance grant. Application forms are available from the student’s local Vocational Education Committee (VEC). Students from designated disadvantaged partnership areas may be eligible for financial assistance towards course charges.

MATURE STUDENTS

The number of mature students attending Further Education courses in Coláiste Dhúlaigh is increasing each year and at present constitutes a significant proportion of our total numbers. Mature students are very welcome and Learner Supports will pay particular attention to their learning needs.

VTOS

VTOS means “Vocational Training Opportunities Scheme”. The scheme gives unemployed adults the opportunity of returning to full time education while remaining in benefit. For further information please see the VTOS section in our Adult Education menu.

CAREER GUIDANCE COUNSELLING

The Guidance and Counselling team aims to provide a confidential and non-judgemental service, where students have the space to express and clarify their own particular concerns in relation to career, educational and personal issues.

STUDENTS’ UNION

The Student Union is there to represent and help all Further Education students. The governing body of the union is the Students’ Council. This is made up of elected representatives from each class group.

WORK PLACEMENT

Relevant work experience is an integral part of each course. The College has a special relationship with employers in the vocational areas related to each course and we endeavour to put students in contact with employers through the work placement programme.

COMPUTER ACCESS

The College offers computer and Internet access to all students.

STUDY SUPPORT SERVICE

The focus of this service is to improve student performance through the development of study skills. The Study Support Service offers individual support with course work, assignment writing and study techniques. Tutors are available for one-to-one tuition, workshops and small group tutorials that support assignment writing.

LIBRARY

Coláiste Dhúlaigh has designated Library resources in the Kilbarrack and Coolock Campuses. The students on the Coolock campus use the Dublin City Library which is situated next to the college, and has WiFi access.

MOODLE

Moodle is a course management system that provides an effective learning platform for students to enhance communications and provide online access to a wide variety of resources.

eQSF

eQSF is a Quality Standards Framework for Information and Communications Technology (ICT) in Learning. It provides a quality framework consisting of 13 interrelated standards that describe effective education provision using ICT.
