Media in Education
FETAC Level 5 and Level 6 AwardThis is a two year programme which is designed to provide learners with a broad understanding of the world of Media and Education. Students will be given the knowledge, skills and competencies required for working with people in an educational and/or media environment.
In addition to providing a strong academic base this course facilitates creative development by accessing a range of media forms - Writing, Photography, Art, Image Processing, Music, Radio and Drama. Some students on the course can continue their education and career path to become media
practitioners. Other students will focus instead on the use of these media forms for education and therapeutic purposes in their future work as special needs assistants or within the community development area.
Course Content
First year Modules will include the following:
Communications, Work Placement, Understanding Special
Needs, Image Processing, Media Analysis, Irish/Cultural
Studies
A choice of the following modules will be offered:
Photography/Art, Radio/Special Needs Assisting,
Music/Drama
Second Year Modules will include:
Group Work Theory & Practice, Facilitating Learning Level 5,
Inclusive Education Level 6, Community Development
Practice Level 6, Community Participation Theory Level 6,
Vocational Specialism

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
All students who present for these courses will be given individual guidance by qualified tutors who are in a position to make recommendations as to what courses may suit their learning needs.
Progression
On completion of this course learners may gain advanced entry to a variety of cognate degree programmes in our linked colleges.
