Outdoor Adventure Management
FETAC Award (Level 5 – DOREC), Higher National Diploma National Governing Bodies Certification
This challenging course provides students with the
opportunities to develop the skills, knowledge and
qualifications necessary to gain employment in the adventure
sector of the leisure industry. Outdoor Adventure Management
students undertake the following pathway of study:
Certificate in Outdoor Recreation FETAC Level 5
YEAR 1
This certificate provides a comprehensive introduction to
Outdoor Recreation which includes: Hill Walking,
Orienteering, Rock Climbing, Dinghy Sailing, Powerboating,
Windsurfing, Kayaking, Outdoor Recreation, Outdoor
Leadership and Safety, REC (First Aid), Communications &
Industrial Placement, Team Working.
HND in Outdoor Adventure Management
YEAR 2
Adventure Recreation, Outdoor Leadership & Instruction,
Environmental Issues, Outdoor Activities, Water-based
Activities, Finance Operations in Leisure, Expedition
Leadership and Industrial Experience.
Students will have the opportunity to achieve the following
National Governing Awards: Dinghy Instructor, Windsurfing
Instructor, Kayak Instructor and Mountain Leader (Training).
YEAR 3
Adventure Programming, Managing People in Leisure,
Adventure Tourism, Risk & Safety Management, Marketing
for Sales & Leisure, Managing a Watersports Centre,
Principles of Navigation at sea and Working with Young
People in the Outdoors.
Students will have the opportunity to achieve the following
National Governing Body Awards:
Senior Instructor (Dinghy), Power Boat Instructor,
Advanced Dinghy Instructor, Kayak Instructor (L3),
Windsurfing Instructor (L2/3) and Coastal Skipper.
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Centres, Sports Development Officers, Adventure Travel
Companies, Youth Development work.
