Health Science (Pre-Nursing)
FETAC Award (Level 5 – DCHSX)
This course introduces students to the broad and expanding area of Health Science and Social Care. It has been designed to meet the needs of different groups of students:
- Students who did not obtain the required Leaving Certificate points for their chosen nursing course can use this course as a progression route
- Students who were ineligible to progress to a nursing degree programme because they did not study a science subject for the Leaving Certificate.
The Faculty of Science and Health in DCU has set aside 10 places (4 in General Nursing, 3 in Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing and 3 in Intellectual Disability/Mental Health Nursing) specifically for graduates of this course who attain 5 Distinctions and a full FETAC Award (DCHSX). 3 of the distinctions must be achieved from the core modules: Anatomy & Physiology, Introduction to Nursing and either Human Growth and Development or Biology.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Leaving Certificate (including LCA) and interview. Mature students are particularly welcome. Two written references are to be presented at interview.
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
This course will also serve as an excellent foundation in the core subjects for mature students who wish to pursue careers or further study in the Health or Social Care professions.
