About this Course

This is a foundation course, providing the learner with practical skills and an appreciation and understanding of visual communications for Graphic Design.

The learner is introduced to a broad range of art and design subjects that will help to build a solid portfolio for entry into the BTEC HND Diploma in Graphic Design.

Students are introduced to the basics of Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, introduction to HTML and Web Design.

Graphic Design, Drawing, Painting, Design, Combined Materials. Digital Photography, Web Authoring, Appreciation of Art and Design, Craft and Design, Work Placement and Communications.

Higher National Diploma, BA (Hons)

Award Title: BTEC HND in Graphic Design (TYpography)

About This Course

The BTEC HND in Graphic Design creatively explores how we transfer ideas and information in ways that can be read or viewed online or in printed matrerial. Students investigate combining words and images in a variety of media to communicate messages.The specialist pathway for the course is Typography i.e. the art and technique of arranging and designing typfaces.

The course recognises the need for todays graphic designers to be equipped with practical and techinical skills, for this reason all assignments are project based, designed to develop your first design portfolio.

BTEC HND 1

Core units Year 1
Computer Applications in Art and Design, Historical and Contextual Referencing, Drawing Techniques and Approaches, Ideas Generation.

Specialist Units Year 1
Visual Communications, Typographic Skills, Computer Animation, Typographic Ideas.

Core Units Year 2
Critical Study, Ideas in Context, Professional Studies, Managing The Design and Production Process.

Specialist Units Year 2
Art direction for Advertising, Advanced Typographic Design, Corporate Identity, Communication with Images, Exploring Mass Text Applications.

CERTIFICATION

FETAC Level 5, HND, BA (Hons)

DURATION

3 Years (4 Years with BA (Hons) Degree option)

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Leaving Certificate (including LCA) and interview (with portfolio). Mature and postgraduate students also welcome.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Graphic Design, Media Design, Illustration, Internet/Multimedia, TV Production and Advertising.
