Art and Design Portfolio Preparation
FETAC Award (Level 5 – AAXXX)This is a portfolio preparation course for students who wish to gain entry to Third Level Art Colleges both in Ireland and abroad. Emphasis is placed on the preparation of a balanced portfolio showing the student’s individual sense of colour, design, pattern etc., using a wide variety of media. Applicants should present their most recent artwork (2D/3D, photography) at interview.
Course Content
Research and exploration of ideas and materials through: Drawing from Observation, Painting, Design, Life Drawing, Media Skills/3D Studies, Contextual Studies, Portfolio Evaluation, Image Processing, Photography, Colour and Light, Communications, Work Placement.
CERTIFICATION
FETAC Level 5
NCAD will now accept five FETAC distinctions in place of two
honours (at higher level) and four passes in the Leaving
Certificate.
DURATION
1 Year
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Leaving Certificate (including LCA), interview and samples of recent observational work and any other art work. We welcome mature students on the course. For students who do not have the required subject requirements or the high level of Leaving Certificate points needed to obtain a place in the third level colleges they can substitute their Leaving Certificate results with the FETAC Award offered on the course. NCAD will accept five FETAC distinctions from a full FETAC Award in lieu of Leaving Certificate results. Dun Laoghaire and most other Art Colleges throughout the country will accept three FETAC distinctions from a full FETAC Award in lieu of Leaving Certificate results.
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES/COLLEGE LINKS
Many students take up places in third level colleges such as NCAD, Dun Laoghaire Institute of Art and Design, DIT, Institutes of Technology and Art colleges abroad.
Students also progress to Higher National Diploma and Degree programmes in Graphic Design, Interior Design, Animation, Architectural Studies and Architectural Technology in Coláiste Dhúlaigh College of Further Education.
