FETAC Award (Level 5 – ACADX), BTEC Higher National Diploma, BA (Hons)Architectural Technologists specialise in the technology of building design and construction. Architectural Technologists are increasingly playing a major role in today’s building industry, which puts a high value on technical knowledge and skills.
This is a challenging course offering students the opportunity to develop skills in the areas of Building Construction, Computer-Aided-Draughting, Architectural Visualisation and Building Design.
Course Content
YEAR 1
Building Construction, Architectural Drawing, Design, Computer Aided Design (CAD), History of Architecture and Design, Image Processing, Materials and Finishes, Communications, Work Experience.
YEAR 2
Computer Aided Design, Design and Presentation Skills, Design Procedures, Building Services Engineering Technology, Materials Properties and Performance, Specification, Technology A, Technology B.
YEAR 3
3D Modelling, Design Thesis, Contractual Procedures, Design Technology, Dissertation, Refurbishment and Adaptation, Structural Behaviour and Detailing, Technology C, Building Energy Rating.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Leaving Certificate and interview. A portfolio of art, technical or design related work is useful. A portfolio could include technical, building or engineering drawings, design-related drawing, photography or any other art design related material work.
Advanced entry is considered for applicants with experience in Computer Aided Design and Building Construction.
