Architectural Studies
FETAC Award (Level 5 – ADESX), BA (Hons)This course provides students with an introduction to the world of architecture and allows them to develop a portfolio for entry to architecture degree courses at home and abroad. The course centres on students developing their individual artistic and creative expression through a programme of architectural design projects. An introduction to Architecture, new and old is provided through a series of visits to buildings of note and slide-based lectures.
Course Content
Architectural Design, Architectural Drawing, Combined Materials, Drawing, Sulpture, Appreciation of Art and Design, Building Construction, Computer Aided Design, Communications, Work Placement.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Leaving Certificate and interview. A portfolio of art, technical or design related work is useful. If presented, a portfolio could include: artwork, technical, building or engineering drawings, design-related drawing, photography, or any other art/design related material.

Successful graduates of this course have continued their studies in Architectural Degree and Architectural Technician Diploma courses both in Ireland and the UK. Successful students progress into Degree programmes at DIT, the University of Lincoln, Canterbury Institute of Design (KIAD) and University of Ulster. Other successful graduates have been accepted into the second year of the Architectural Technology course in Coláiste Dhúlaigh.
