This course is designed to satisfy the increasing demand from students who wish to pursue a career in Applied Biology, Bio- Technology or Bio-Medical Science or continue their studies to degree level in the Sciences.

YEAR 1
Physiology of Cellular Systems in Animals, Neurophysiology and Homeostatic control of the Human Body, Laboratory Techniques, Microbiology, Cell Biology 1, Biochemistry of Macromolecules and Metabolic Pathways 1, Analysis of Scientific Data and Information, Chemistry for Applied Biologists 1, Chemical Laboratory Techniques 1, Physics (subject to change)
YEAR 2
Cell Biology 2, Biochemistry of Macromolecules 2, Molecular Biology and Genetics, Infectious Diseases, The Immune Response System, Applied Genetics of Industry Agriculture and Medicine, Pharmacological Principles of Drug Actions, Project for Applied Science, Chemistry for Applied Biologists 2, Chemical Laboratory Techniques 2, Managing The Work of Individuals and Teams (subject to change)
CERTIFICATION
Higher National Diploma (Edexcel) in Applied Biology
Laboratory Techniques, Microbiology and Physics will also receive FETAC Level 5 certification
DURATION
2 Years
ENTRY REquirements
Leaving Certificate and interview. Mature students are welcome.
Career opportunities
Laboratories, Hospitals, Food Manufacture and the Pharmaceutical Industries. Students may also use the course for entry to degree courses in Science in Ireland or abroad or they may wish to pursue further study in the areas of Toxicology, Bio-Technology or Quality Control in Food Production.
