Higher National Diploma BA (Hons)

LThis two-year course is designed to equip students with the knowledge, understanding and skills required for successful careers in the social care sector. It also allows students advanced entry onto degree programmes in this area. The units offered will enable students to acquire theoretical knowledge, and the extensive work placement provides practical experience in a wide variety of social care settings.

YEAR 1
Communicating in Health & Social Care, Principles of Health & Social Care, Health & Safety in Health & Social Care, Personal & Professional Development, Contemporary Issues in Health & Social Care, The sociological context of Health & Social Care, Psychology for Health & Social Care, Understanding the Learning Process.

YEAR 2
Working in Partnership, Research Project, Empowering Users, Safegaurding in Health & Social Care, Social Policy, Developing Counselling Skills, Health Promotion.

TRAINING

Child Protection Certificate
Manual Handling Certificate

DURATION

2 Years

ENTRY Requirements

Leaving Certificate (preferably 2 Hons) and/or FETAC Level 5 with at least a Merit Profile and interview. Some work experience in the social care sector would be an advantage. Good writing skills are also essential on this course. Two written references (one from school), to be presented at interview. Students must apply for Garda Clearance at Registration in September.

Progression

Graduates from this course can  transfer to final year of the BA (Hons) in Social Care/ Social Policy in Wolverhampton University. Alternatively they may gain advanced entry to relevant degree programmes in the Institutes of Technology.
