Nursing is the provision of care for individuals, families and groups throughout the entire life span from conception to death.  Nursing is both an art and a science that requires the understanding and application of the knowledge and skills specific to the discipline. This course introduces students to the broad and expanding area of Health Science and Social Care. It has been designed to meet the needs of different groups of students:

Course Content

Anatomy and Physiology, Introduction to Nursing, Human Growth & Development, Biology, Nutrition, Health & Safety in the Workplace, Database Methods, Spreadsheets, Communications and Work Experience.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Leaving Certificate and interview. Mature students are particularly welcome. Two written references and a passport photo are to be presented at interview (1 school and 1 employer).   A Garda clearance certificate must be completed at interview.  Bring with you accurate details of all addresses from birth to present and the corresponding years at that address.  

 

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

This course will also serve as an excellent foundation in the core subjects for mature students who wish to pursue careers or further study in the Health or Social Care professions.

Graduates of this course may use the FETAC links scheme to progress to a wide variety of courses offered by the Universities and Institutes of Technology.
