FETAC Award (Level 5 – DCHSX)
This course provides an introduction to the theory and practice of social care and social studies. The wide range of modules offered enables students to gain a critical awareness of the way in which society works and provides the opportunity to investigate contemporary social issues. The course will interest students wishing to gain theoretical knowledge and practical experience before applying for 3rd level college places in Social Studies or our 2 Year Higher National Diploma in Social Care Practice.
Course Content
Social Studies, Human Growth and Development, Health and Safety, Professional Practice, Group Dynamics, Communication Skills, Information Technology, Work Placement in the Care Sector.

DURATION
1 Year
ENTRY requirements
Leaving Certificate (including LCA) and interview. Good writing skills are essential on this course. Two written references (one from school) to be presented at interview. Students must apply for Garda Clearance at Registration in September.
Progression
Students who graduate with a Merit profile may gain entry onto the Two-Year Diploma in Social Care Practice. Students may also progress to Institutes of Technology under the Higher Education Links Scheme.
